Accuracy assessment of quasi-seamless hydrographic separation models in Malaysian waters

The hydrographic survey reduction using ellipsoid has been available since the advent of global navigation satellite system (GNSS), with a potential to streamline operation and enhance bathymetric output. Spatially continuous separation surfaces connecting chart datum (CD) geodetic is required for this technique. Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) invented new quasi-seamless model Malaysian waters, known as Vertical Separation (MyVSEP) model, through semi-empirical models capture spatial variability tidal between coastal offshore areas. A vertical established develop MyVSEP by combining datasets. datasets referred reference point computed from tide gauges, while derived altimetry. Mean sea level (MSL) or mean surface (MSS), dynamic topography (MDT), lowest astronomical (LAT), highest (HAT) are datums involved in developing model. However, integration only conducted over Peninsular region. For Sabah Sarawak, cannot be implemented due limitation assessment integrated gauges discussed study. finding shows that root square error (RMSE) agreement 2020 (iUTM20) yields below 2.0 cm. iUTM20 also show significant improvement compared altimetric-derived models, which recorded 1.8 cm cm, respectively. development Ellipsoidally Referenced Surveying technique indirectly optimizes marine geospatial information resources, especially National Hydrographic Centre Malaysia.
